The TWIN4DEM project will be featured in a parallel session at the 11th International Conference on Computational Social Science (IC²S²), taking place from 21–24 July 2025 in Norrköping, Sweden. The presentation will be led by Professor Giangiacomo Bravo from Linnaeus University.
IC²S², hosted by the Swedish Excellence Center for Computational Social Science and the Institute for Analytical Sociology (IAS), is the leading international conference at the intersection of social and computational sciences. It brings together researchers across sociology, economics, political science, psychology, cognitive science, management, computer science, statistics, and related fields to explore social phenomena through large-scale data and computational methods.

💡 What is the connection with TWIN4DEM?
In this session, Professor Bravo will present the innovative concept of using digital twins to model democratic backsliding. The talk will outline the project’s initial steps, including the development of a conceptual framework and the implementation of a toy model. This model, built using Python, Mesa, and Solara, allows for both real and synthetic data input and includes a user interface to support analysis and stakeholder engagement.
📊 The project’s long-term vision includes integrating modules on courts, civil society, and the EU into the digital twin, supported by AI-driven data integration and empirical validation across four countries: Czech Republic, France, Hungary, and the Netherlands.
